Kitchen Scale
This scale is affordable, simple and works for up to 11lbs. I haven’t come across a recipe it couldn’t handle.
Danish Whisk
These Whisk are fantastic for mixing your dough and they are super affordable. They are stainless steel which is safe for your dough. I find these work best for incorporating my starter into the water to obtain the bubbling milky base.
Clear Proofing Containers
If I could tell you to get just one thing, it would be these. These proofing containers have improved my baking SO much! You can see when your dough has doubled. There is no guessing game or measuring. They help prevent you over or under proofing your dough! They are multi-use as well! I use extras to store flour.
BOSCH Universal Plus Stand Mixer 500 watt, 6.5-Quarts
The ONLY mixer that can actually handle your Sourdough Batches!
This thing is AMAZING! I haven’t pushed mine to the max, but I throw in four batches of our sourdough recipe and this mixer is like magic. It doesn’t struggle, it doesn’t overheat, it doesn’t turn off randomly. It’s consistent and POWERFUL. It gets your to windowpane fast! Small batch? Medium batch? Big batch? No problem? Bread, Cookies, Icing, Cakes, Crackers, everything is a breeze! My invisible arm muscles that I’ve been working on may not thank me 😂 but I love this thing!
Flour Sack Towels
These towels are fantastic for your dough rest and fermentation. They do not pill and they allow your dough to breathe.
Mixing Bowl
I love this bowl. You can add all of your ingredients and it doesn’t move around, even after it becomes a dough. It’s perfect for stretch and folds!
Thermometer
This is a cheap thermometer, but that’s all you need!
I have found over the years that 209F is the perfect temp for a loaf. When I first started baking, I went off of the “sounding hollow” trick and while that does work for the most part, I was still getting a little bit undercooked loaves. They wernt trash, just needed extra toasting, but I wanted perfect loaves! Temping to 209F made that happen. Do it as soon as you pull it out and make sure to do the center and don’t touch the bottom of the pan.
Measuring Spoons
I love these. They have been used over and over again and they still look fantastic! The little leveler is the best!
Measuring Cup
I have had this for years and I love that I can warm my spring water in it for baking!
Plastic Pitcher
This is multi-use, it is not a must but I like it to keep myself organized. When I am baking, I have my flour and salt sitting in the pitcher, ready to be poured in when needed. It makes the process more seamless. You could easily use another bowl, etc.
Shower Caps
I know, it sounds weird. It upped my sourdough game IMMENSELY! It keeps just enough air out and just enough moisture in, not to much and the dough never sticks. They are very cheap and in my opinion, needed!
Bread Lame
This bread lame works great! Whether you are doing fancy or simple designs, the blade is sharp and steady.
I opt for a simple slash (mostly because It’s easy and simple) but you can design away with this thing! I love the control it offers!
Sourdough Home
The health and growth rate of a sourdough starter are heavily influenced by feeding schedule and temperature. Room temperature can fluctuate throughout the year. I keep our house FREEZING 😇With the SD Home, you can keep your starter at a consistent temperature year-round and it’s always bubbling!
Bannetons
These baskets are fantastic and on the more affordable side. You can leave the cover on for a smooth surface or off for a very pretty lined surface. I have also used the cover, to cover my dough when I was out of shower caps and it works great too! Bannetons are just for proofing not the oven. I like these because you get two shapes.
Rice Flour
I spray my banneton lightly and then dust with rice flour to prevent my dough from sticking while proofing. Sticking dough will deflate your loaf and you after all that work! Believe me, I’ve done it a time or 7. I’ve used this flour since I started my baking journey and it’s never failed me.
King Arthur Bread Flour
I have tested multiple flours. This yields the best loaves for me!
Pure Vanilla Extract
The best for your Sourdough Sweet Baking!

Bakers Salt
Mason Jars
Great for feeding your starter, storing active starter, storing your starter in the fridge if you travel, or starting your starter!
Large Mason Jar
I love this jar for when I am bulking up my starter and need a lot on hand. It keeps it safe and makes feeding a breeze! I also store my discard in the fridge in one.
Locking Lid Jars
Some only use screw in jars, I actually like locking lid jars when I need starter fast. These work great and I have had no issues with running them through the dishwasher.
Seedling Heating Mats
To me, these are quintessential. They are inexpensive, but essential! I am always hot, therefor my AC is on 68. Great for me, not so much my starter. These mats do a great job at barely heating, my starter never goes above or below 69ish. When I’m not feeding, I put my jars next to the mat. It makes a HUGE difference.
Oven Mitts
When you are handling Dutch ovens at 450F degrees, you need to protect your hands and wrists! These do a great job at gripping and the heat doesn’t sink through when you are looking for a landing spot for your bread.
Dutch Ovens
P.W.-https://walmrt.us/4fq7I1v
Lodge- https://amzn.to/3UNFwgU
I have two favorites. The double Dutch for longer loaf shapes and the P.W. Dutch for Boules. I have tested multiples. I may have over 20 Dutch ovens (testing is important). These two are the winners every single time no matter what and they ring true for the shapes each time. They are favorite based on steam being locked in, bread rise, bottoms not burning, taste, repeated use over and over again at high temps, crust obtained and of course interior obtained. If I had to pick and over all, I really would pick the P.W. but the double Dutch is an incredibly close second. The challenger is just a rockstar and I love that I can bake two loaves!

Baking Trays
These are greats for multiple things but my favorite things to use these for is my Dutch oven. When you place your Dutch oven on a sheet tray to bake, you prevent a burnt bottom!
Cooling Racks
Muti-use item. I find these to be a must for cooling my loaves down faster!
Bread Knives
Both of these knives slice right through sourdough clean, leaving you with a uniform loaf.
Butter Keeper
A must once you make and get addicted to my butter recipe. Having nice room temperature butter is always perfect for a slice of toast🙂
Bench Scraper
Great for shaping your boules and loaves!
Using a scraper helps reduce the amount of flour you need during shaping, giving a better crust taste and texture.
Sourdough Painting
These are the BEST brushes I have used thus far for sourdough painting. They give you control of where the gel is landing and allow great precision. They make my lines so much prettier!
Food Coloring Gel
This set gives you any and all colors you could want!
They keep their brightness even after baking is done.
Make your Colors POP!
Mix with your food gels to get a brighter color and the correct consistency for painting your dough.
